During my recent business trip to Dubai I opted to stay at the Pullman Jumeirah Lakes Towers as I had several meetings around Dubai Marina and this property seemed to be the Accor 5-star property with the best value for money.
The hotel is conveniently in walking distance of Dubai Marina mall and parts of Dubai Marina (granted that depends on how much you are accustomed to the climate in the UAE) and roughly 40 minutes drive from the airport. While the hotel offers a pick-up service for AED200, which I used due to scheduled late arrival at DXB, I do think it is a better option to use uber or Careem. Alternatively Nakheel station of the red MRT line is right in front of the hotel (price from the airport with nol card will be around AED10) which is fine during off-peak only!
Upon arrival I was invited to check-in at the executive lounge on level 18 as a Platinum member perk. I was also informed that I received an upgrade to a deluxe corner room on the 16th floor, as the hotel was fully booked and no better room was available. The check-in process was quick and nice, welcome drinks were proactively offered and I was invited to relax in the lounge while the check-in was finalised.
The executive lounge has a small breakfast area with dining tables and 2 separate rooms with lounge sofas, magazines and TVs. The front desk is separated outside. There is also an all-day drinks and snacks offer with coffee and soft drinks.
I had breakfast a few times in the lounge and it wasn’t really good. The service was friendly and quick but the buffet was just too tiny. Clubs/lounges always have a smaller selection on the buffet and many top-up with a-la-carte dining. Here there was no a-la-carte dining and the buffet was essentially mushrooms, fried potatoes, some fruits, bread, pancakes and cheese. So that was quite disappointing and the worst breakfast in any Pullman so far.
The room featured a decent size with a corridor that had a big drawer and storage for luggage on the left and the bathroom on the right.
The bathroom had a walk-in shower and a bathtub which was nice. It was also stocked with the standard Pullman toiletries. One big issue I had with the bathroom was that the ground was built even. In countries in the Middle East and Asia it is common to have a lot of water on the bathroom floor which is supposed to drain quickly. Due to the way this bathroom was built that did not happen so basically every day after showering there was water everywhere until the housekeeping came to make up the room. Annoying!
The room itself had a small desk right after the entrance corridor where a welcome amenity was waiting for me. Tasty pralines!
The main room was separated on one side with a small wall from the entrance. behind the wall was a office desk which was very convenient to work from the room. In the middle was the king size bed which was very comfortable.
The room also featured a flat screen TV which was placed a bit inconvenient on a drawer next to the windows. But since the windows covered most of the room and the bed it wasn’t really easy to watch TV from the bed. The view on some of the Jumeirah Lakes Towers surely wasn’t stunning compared to what Dubai offers in terms of views, but it also wasn’t bad.
The room size was decent but as mentioned the construction in certain parts wasn’t well thought through. Besides that I noticed some items outside of the hotels are really due to be replaced, while the room was fine carpets, decoration and some chairs in the hotel looked super worn out. The hotel has a pool on the top floor with a pool bar, it is super cramped with the chairs they put there and feels really like a 3 stars ibis. Also the WIFI was terribly slow…
Upon check-out the staff in the executive lounge informed me that they wouldn’t be able to assist as the actual lounge attendant went for lunch break. That is just super unprofessional considering it was 12pm and main check-out time. I then walked down to the main lobby where there was a huge queue, I waited 30 minutes and then an other 20 minutes because the front desk staff had to walk up to the lounge and charge my card with the machine there. Worst service experience for a check-out and multiple other guests were equally upset about the long waiting times. It seemed as if that was literally the first check-out ever for all staff present.
Bottom line for the Pullman Jumeirah Lakes Towers: an ok hotel with decent size, mostly acceptable service and a convenient location, depending on what you want to do in Dubai. Nevertheless the quality of the rooms and hotel, the little breakfast choices, slow WIFI, lack of decent facilities and partially really bad service make it to a Pullman I won’t be able to recommend or stay again at.
