During my summer trip to Germany in 2015 I spent one night in the Pullman Dresden Newa, which is a 4-star property centrally located in Dresden. Due to it’s central location in the historic part of the city the Pullman is a good base for both shopping and sightseeing.
Right opposite the Pullman Accor also built a much larger Ibis that features a solid 3-star product, to offer a more budget friendly option to travellers looking for the same central location as the Pullman.
The hotel is easily found and served by tram and bus public transport, I was arriving by car which was slightly inconvenient for two reasons:
- there is an insanely long traffic light on the small road leading to the hotel lobby, INSANELY LONG
- the hotel has very limited parking at the lobby which is normally reserved for hotel cars, while you can stop for drop-off the entrance basement parking is located some 500m down the road below the adjacent building
The lobby is big and bright with the standard Pullman style and color scheme, check-in was quick and friendly. Unfortunately though there was no staff to help with the luggage which I would have appreciated, especially since this property was more to the 5-star side in many aspects anyway.
Due to my Le Club status I scored an upgrade to the highest room category, which was also at the highest level overlooking the square in front of the hotel.
The suite room was very spacious and featured a living room with some drawers as well as a bedroom that could be separated by swinging doors.
The room was styled similar to the lobby and incorporated the Pullman brand well, there were also 2 TVs, a luggage rack, a complimentary bottle of water, a welcome amenity (muffin) and coffee making facilities. Later in the day I received a cake to my room after coming back as it was my birthday, a very nice touch.
The separate bedroom featured a queen size bed that was comfortable enough, I found it a bid confusing that the bed was stocked with 2 small blankets rather than one big sized. The space in the bedroom was nice and the whole room felt very big. I loved the huge windows that gave amazing views over the nearby square and mall as the hotel was the highest building around.
Next to the bedroom was a big bathroom that featured a bathtub and separate shower as well as 2 basins.
The bathroom was stocked with standard Pullman toiletries, no toothbrush so I had to request for one. I really don’t get why European hotels in general do not stock toothbrushes in rooms…
WIFI is free and working as expected, not specifically fast but also not terribly slow. I did not have breakfast or sample any other food/drinks in the hotel so I can not say much for that. There is a bar next to the lobby in the ground floor which looked alright, but nothing special in terms of bar styling.
The Pullman Dresden Newa is one of the very few Accor properties in Europe that surprised me in a good way. The staff was friendly, the location perfect and the room was spacious and a very comfortable place to spend one night. The parking situation is a bit inconvenient and the rates are outright scam, but that is standard in German hotels and not unique to this property. I would definitely stay here again when coming to Dresden in the future.
