A few months ago Qatar Airways published an incredibly deal for flights departing Ho Chi Minh City (SGN) and as I had to book a trip to Europe anyway I took advantage and ticketed a flight from Vietnam to Germany.
As I am not living in Vietnam I had to position there first and booked a separate flight with Malaysia Airlines for this. I have flown this route and carrier countless times and reviewed it here, but this flight presented me a very special and very outdated aircraft.

After visiting the rather disappointing Plaza Premium lounge Kuala Lumpur I was even kind of looking forward to my 18 hours trip on Emirates A380 economy to Barcelona via Dubai.
Maybe it was a mix of the fact that the lounge was not much better than an economy flight and that I just wanted to be done with the trip but in the end the trip was still pretty decent. Now I won’t start flying these distances for fun in economy but if I have to Emirates is definitely a solid option.

Before embarking on my recent trip to Europe in Emirates A380 economy I had the chance to sample one of the very few independent contract lounges in Kuala Lumpur (KUL) Terminal 1.
Located in the satellite building that houses the C gates Plaza Premium lounge operates on the upper level and is a short way from the sky train. Besides being used by multiple airlines for premium passengers it is also part of Priority Pass and several credit cards like the Maybank 2 cards premier give access. As for Maybank cards be aware which cards give access as they like to shuffle it around every few months, of course without informing customers.

For a quick business trip to Shanghai from my base in Kuala Lumpur I needed a convenient flight that would minimise nights in Shanghai. While I prefer Malaysia Airlines from KUL originating flights to Asia they had only times that did not work well for me.
Shanghai Airlines on the other side had perfect timing leaving to Shanghai late night and arriving early morning and back to Kuala Lumpur in the evening. This would allow me to maximise the time in Shanghai for meetings, but little did I know what kind of ride I was in for.

Prior to my flight to Dubai on Emirates A380 I had the chance to check on The Emirates lounge Kuala Lumpur, which is one of the last lounges I haven’t yet reviewed in KUL.
The lounge is located on the upper level of the satellite terminal, that hosts the C-gates from which Emirates flights as well as most long-haul services depart. Since security is at each gate individually one just has to pass immigration and customs to take a quick ride on the aerotrain to the satellite building.

After my rather unsatisfying flight to Dubai I wasn’t specifically looking forward to the return flight on Emirates Boing 777-300ER, since the business class product does not even feature direct aisle access on every seat.
Maybe it was due to my low expectations, the really nice time in the Emirates lounge in Dubais Terminal 3 at DXB or the fact this this 777 was equipped with the updated business class seat, but I ended up enjoying this flight a lot more than the A380 trip.

After my very pleasant stay in The Emirates Lounge Kuala Lumpur I headed to the gate for my flight to Dubai (DXB) shortly after boarding was announced in the lounge. Kuala Lumpur (KUL) has one A380 gate in the satellite building, which is used by Emirates. The boarding process was chaotic as usual in KUL, security was amazingly slow and when the flight went to final call there were still around 200 people to clear.
The A380 gate has a dedicated Business/First lane for security, which was of course not staffed. When they realised they wouldn’t manage to finish on time they opened it, but rather than using it as it is dedicated they just shuffled everyone to there, no matter of class ticketed.

Over the years I have stayed countless times at the Pullman Bangsar Kuala Lumpur, it was and is my go-to hotel in Kuala Lumpur for the times at which I am not living full time in the city.
While I have stayed at multiple room types here this review will focus on the suite rooms to which I received several upgrades as part of my Accor Le Club platinum membership.

Vietnam and especially Ho Chi Minh City is one of my most frequented locations due to work related events and I have been to the city dozens of times since mid of 2014. While Vietnam is a challenging environment in terms of infrastructure and language barrier people there are also very friendly and I enjoy most of my time spent in the country.
Since I am based in Kuala Lumpur (KUL) I have essentially 3 options to fly in business class to Ho Chi Minh City (SGN), all of which feature a more or less similar product with minor differences.

Kuala Lumpur international airport terminal 1 (KUL) is the home of Malaysias national carrier Malaysia Airlines. Since it is the biggest hub for the airline MAS operates 2 separate business class lounges.
One of the lounge is located in the main terminal building – which is mostly used for domestic and regional Asia destinations – the Malaysia Airlines Regional lounge. The Malaysia Airlines Golden lounge is in first floor of the satellite building at KLIA near the C gates.
