For a short notice trip to Asia I was lucky to find a cheap Gulf Air fare to Bangkok, via Bahrain, more or less via accident while browsing their website. While Gulf Air is not as grand as the other Gulf carriers the price was tempting enough to book.
After leaving the disappointing Cathay Pacific lounge still hungry for breakfast I was looking forward to flying this “exotic” airline finally for the first time.

As part of my recent short trip I had another visit at the Emirates Business class lounge in Dubai, while having flown Emirates countless of times from and to Dubai I have never actually reviewed their lounge yet.
As my flight to Kuala Lumpur was scheduled with a Boing777-300ER aircraft the gate and lounge for this departure were located in concourse B of Emirates and Qantas exclusive terminal 3.

After my rather unsatisfying flight to Dubai I wasn’t specifically looking forward to the return flight on Emirates Boing 777-300ER, since the business class product does not even feature direct aisle access on every seat.
Maybe it was due to my low expectations, the really nice time in the Emirates lounge in Dubais Terminal 3 at DXB or the fact this this 777 was equipped with the updated business class seat, but I ended up enjoying this flight a lot more than the A380 trip.

During my recent business trip to Dubai I opted to stay at the Pullman Jumeirah Lakes Towers as I had several meetings around Dubai Marina and this property seemed to be the Accor 5-star property with the best value for money.
The hotel is conveniently in walking distance of Dubai Marina mall and parts of Dubai Marina (granted that depends on how much you are accustomed to the climate in the UAE) and roughly 40 minutes drive from the airport. While the hotel offers a pick-up service for AED200, which I used due to scheduled late arrival at DXB, I do think it is a better option to use uber or Careem. Alternatively Nakheel station of the red MRT line is right in front of the hotel (price from the airport with nol card will be around AED10) which is fine during off-peak only!

Oman Air just informed Sindbad members about some pretty generous changes in their baggage policy. Since my recent flight from Kuala Lumpur to Munich via Muscat I joined Oman Airs Sindbad program and got a, also pretty generous and easy, status match from my Emirates Skywards status.

On my recent flights from Kuala Lumpur (KUL) to Munich (MUC) and back via Muscat (MUC) on Oman Air I was invited twice to the Oman Air business class lounge in Muscat, while I had some time to explore the lounge and it’s features during my first stay it was too crowded to take pictures, thankfully the second trip allowed for a few snapshots.
In general Muscat airport is somewhat in a transition state as the old terminal has only remote gates and is quite outdated. It was built some decades ago back in the mid 20th century and the passenger capacity is long exceeded, as well as the facilities can’t really match todays expectations at an airport. While it isn’t the worst airport the experience for transiting in MCT is anything but seamless.

On my return flight from Dubai (DXB) to Kuala Lumpur (KUL) via Bangkok (BKK) with Thai Airways I was given the choice between the Marhaba lounge and the Lufthansa lounge in Dubai international airport. I researched prior to check-in when I found only the Marhaba lounge invitation and saw a lot of rather bad reviews about it being crowded and little food spread of low quality. So I wasn’t exactly thrilled about going there.
Upon check-in I was informed that I could also use the Lufthansa lounge, since Thai airways is star alliance same as Lufthansa that made sense. I guess Marhaba as a contract lounge is just their main lounge since they don’t want to put everyone in the smaller Lufthansa lounge.

For this years Christmas trip I decided to fly back to Germany and spend some weeks in Europe. Earlier in October Oman Air had an amazing sale for flights originating in Kuala Lumpur with awesome rates for business class tickets.
Naturally for roughly MYR4,000 (~USD900) roundtrip from KUL to Munich (MUC) via Muscat (MCT) I could not resist, especially since there are many great reviews for the Oman Air J product. After I booked this flight I did also request a status match from my Skywards card to Oman Air Sindbad, which was approved within a few days.
