I recently returned to the beautiful city of Munich in Germany and needed a hotel. On my last stay I booked the Novotel Munich City Arnulfpark and was very positively surprised. I also noticed that the building hosts an Ibis hotel as well, which takes up one half of the property.
As this was just a one night stay and Ibis hotels are very ‘upscale’ for the 3-stars category I decided to shake things up a bit and see how this hotel would compare to the Novotel.

Before my flight back to Kuala Lumpur on Oman Air I decided to spend one more night in Munich so I would have the day of my departure in the city for some shopping, since Oman Air flights from MUC depart in the late evening.
After my last stay in Munich in the alleged airport hotel Ibis Hallbergmoos was not that nice after all and the following nights in a 5-star Pullman in Riga were even worse, I decided to stick to Accors 4-star level, which provides a lot better value for money in European properties. The Novotel Munich City Arnulfpark seemed like a good choice for that and given that it was freezing cold in Munich with lots of snow, I had a good incentive to thoroughly review this hotel.

On my flight back to Muscat on Oman Air I was invited to the Atlantic lounge, which is a contract lounge, prior to departure. Oman Air, as most non star alliance airlines in Munich, operates out of Terminal 1, which is a bit dated and has quite small gate areas.
After a quick check-in and some unpleasant discussion with German customs as usual (they just don’t like that you are entitled to VAT refund as a German living abroad…) I had a quick security check thanks to the fast track. It was an extremely cold day in Munich with lots of snows so I was looking forward to my departure, the Atlantic lounge certainly did not give me solid reasons to stay as well.

For this years Christmas trip I decided to fly back to Germany and spend some weeks in Europe. Earlier in October Oman Air had an amazing sale for flights originating in Kuala Lumpur with awesome rates for business class tickets.
Naturally for roughly MYR4,000 (~USD900) roundtrip from KUL to Munich (MUC) via Muscat (MCT) I could not resist, especially since there are many great reviews for the Oman Air J product. After I booked this flight I did also request a status match from my Skywards card to Oman Air Sindbad, which was approved within a few days.

After my rather disappointing stay at the ibis Munich airport (MUC) I took a early morning flight with airBaltics newest plane, a Bombardier CS300, which according to the captain had its second day of service on this flight BT222 to Riga international airport (RIX).
The flight was roughly 70 minutes delayed on arrival due to very dense fog at MUC, ground crew gave unfortunately little information about that so I just had to wait at the gate until the plane made its way down through the clouds.

After arriving at Munich international airport (MUC) from Kuala Lumpur (KUL) via Muscat (MCT) on Oman Air I unfortunately was not picked up by the complementary Oman Air chauffeur service as advertised due to some very unfortunate issues with their website and support. So I had to take a taxi from the airport terminal to my hotel.
Given that I arrived in the evening and had to fly out to Riga on airBaltic early the next morning I settled with – as I thought – a more budget friendly solution and made a reservation for the ibis Hallbergmoos, which is advertised as an airport hotel.
